Handy

When a writer can bring readers to a new view of everyday things and occurences, they've accomplished a major feat. Jack Handey, of Saturday Night Live "Deep Thoughts" fame, had a great piece in the New Yorker sheds a completely new light on the mites eating dust on my floor and the racoons rooting through my kitchen. It gave me a sense of cosmic oneness with the ants in my cereal.

I always figured Jack Handey was a made-up name for Saturday Night Live. It seemed too perfect for this person who's giving advice--albeit idiotic and twisted advice--to be named, almost, handy. Well, maybe the name is made up, but there's a real person, a hilarious person, hiding behind that name. Here's another article by Mr. Handey on his recent sex change.
