how to calculate pi by throwing frozen hotdogs

WikiHow had this funny version of a classic experiment for generating an approximation of pi, the number (3.1417...) that's you get when you divide a circle's circumference by its diameter. But why do that when you can throw hotdogs?

All it takes is some kind of long, slender, rigid thing you can throw around. (For all you with potty-minds, that last part is key. You have to be able to throw it.) And then you need some tape or something to mark out a set of lines on the floor. Then you fling your thing (hotdog, whatever) over and over and count how many times the hotdog crosses the lines, or doesn't. Then you do a shockingly simple calculation and, voila, pi!
